6 ways to crush your hair goals

Let’s be realistic about hair health. The key is patience and consistency along with using sulphate free and silicone free hair products that actually improve the health and condition of your hair and scalp.

Understanding the actions that will help to promote hair health is key in order to see results.

Equally important is understanding what actions will be detrimental to hair health and put you further away from achieving your goals. Playing the long game and setting realistic achievable goals is a good place to start.

If you keep doing the same things that have damaged your hair however, you will
keep getting the same results. If you're not happy with those results then you need to change what you are doing. So read on to find out our 6 top tips for crushing your hair goals.

How to reverse engineer the hair goals you want to achieve -

So let's look at what you want to achieve with your hair.

Say “I want my hair to be fuller, grow faster and be more naturally shiny”

Now you need to reverse engineer to get there.

For this goal we can look at the actions that will help achieve this goal and all the actions that will make it harder to achieve.

For example -

Eating healthily, avoiding Sulphates & Silicones, taking a hair growth supplement, avoiding stress and doing regular scalp massage are all positive actions towards that goal.

In contrast -

Having a poor diet. Being stressed and tired, using harsh sulphates and silicones and using excessive heat on your hair are all actions that will make it harder to achieve your goals of fuller, more naturally shiny hair. Some of these actions in fact will be very damaging to the hair and it will be harder and take longer to reach your goals.

For example -

stress accumulates over time and causes more hair follicles than normal to enter their resting and shedding phase prematurely. This causes hair to become thin and brittle over time.

Here are 6 ways you can improve your hair health and why they help -

1. Avoid excessive heat too often -

Why? - Depending on your hair type you might be burning your hair if your hot tools are too hot. Try to reduce the amount of heat you use on your hair by sticking to lower temperatures and not going over and over the same section of hair. It is also important to use a hair primer with heat protection such as our Unwind Detangling Primer.

Repeated exposure to excess temperatures will damage the  protective cuticle layer of your hair strands, which exposes the inner core of the hair fibre to more damage. The worse the damage the harder it is to reverse the affects.

Temperature guide -

Fine hair or chemically treated - 150-170 Degrees C

Medium hair  - 170-190 Degrees C

Thick, wavy & curly hair - 190  Degrees C +

2. Take hair growth vitamins

Why? - Did you know your hair is the last part of the body to receive nutrients from blood yet the first to be with held from in times of stress of illness. Nutrient deficiencies such as low Iron or Vitamin D are really common and can cause hair loss and thinning hair. It is really hard to get all of the right nutrition in your diet alone needed for strong healthy hair so taking a specific hair growth supplement is a great way to ensure you are getting target nutrients designed to help support the growth of strong, healthy shiny hair.

Our Tender Love & Hair vegan hair growth supplements are packed with hair boosting minerals, vitamins and amino acids including -

Zinc, Biotin, Selenium, B12, Iron, Silica as well as a range of health and wellbeing nutrients including Aloe Vera, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C for helping to support the immune system, increase energy levels and enhance mood.

3. Detangle hair using a wide toothed comb

Why? - Reduce breakage by being gentle with hair. Removing knots whilst you have conditioner in your hair with a wide toothed comb or detangling brush is a great way to reduce the tension and stress put on your hair. Always start removing knots from the tips of hair first and work your way up. As an alternative, our Unwind Detangling Primer is a great hair primer for helping to detangle hair and also adds moisture and shine.

4. Use sulphate & Silicone free hair products

Why? - Sulphates can be harsh detergents found in many shampoos and although are good for cleansing they can strip away moisture from the hair and scalp leaving them dry and dehydrated.

Silicones can be a useful cosmetic ingredient found in 'conditioning' and 'smoothing' products to help reduce frizz however over use of silicones can cause build up on the hair as silicones act like a coating and therefor a band aid to what's underneath. This built up coating stops and real moisture and nourishment from getting in to the inner part of the hair structure which leads to dehydration.

Using hair products free from sulphates and silicones such as our entire collection will help to improve the health and condition of your hair over time.

5. Regular hair and scalp treatments

Why? - Using a hydrating mask on your hair is a really important component of improving your hair quality. Conditioner applied and then rinsed off after a minute or so is general maintenance to help close the hair cuticle whereas a deep conditioning mask that is left on for several hours before rinsing is the best way to allow the nourishing and restorative ingredients to penetrate the inner part of the hair structure in order to work their magic.

Have you heard that adopting a skin care routine for your scalp is a sure fire way to get your best hair yet?

6. Scalp massage
